Obstetrics and Gynecology
Dr. Robert Sarmini is a founding member of Matlock OB/GYN, and has practiced in Arlington, Texas since 1984. Dr. Sarmini earned his medical degree in 1977 at the American University of Damascus, Syria. He completed a surgical internship between 1978 and 1979 at Lutheran Medical Center, and the State University of New York in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Sarmini finished his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1983, from Tulane Medical School and the Charity Hospital system in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dr. Sarmini is actively involved in medical research and education. He lectures, and teaches regionally and nationally, with specialization in the areas of pelvic reconstructive gynecological surgery, and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of bleeding and uterine fibroids. Between 2008-2011, Dr. Sarmini was the primary investigator on a FDA clinical trial sponsored by Ethicon, for the treatment of bleeding associated with fibroids; one of seven practices chosen to participate in the study in North America. In 2006 and 2007, Dr. Sarmini was a member of Ethicon’s (Johnson & Johnson) validation team working toward FDA approval of the Second Generation mesh for pelvic reconstructive surgery and the trans vaginal tape (Secure) for the treatment of urinary incontinence.

His publications include: Popular Dermatitis of Pregnancy, in 1988, Verrucous Carcinoma of the Cervix, in 1981, LSH-The Way of the Future, in 2003, Outcome Comparisons Between Total Abdominal Hysterectomy and Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy, published in the March/April 2005 edition of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology. Additional publications include: Laparoscopic Resection of Cornual Pregnancy in an Unstable Patient, published in June/July 2005, Different Surgical Techniques to Perform Laparoscopic Hysterectomies, presented in November 2005, Laparoscopic Resection of Extra Mucosal Endometriosis in Hematuria Patients, presented in November 2006, A Comparison of LSH, LAVH, TLH and TVH Outcomes and Costs, presented in November 2007, The Surgical Outcomes of Depo-Lupron on Laparoscopic Uterine Artery Occlusion for the Treatment of Fibroids, presented in November in 2008.

Dr. Sarmini was permanently certified by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1985, and has voluntarily re-certified every year since 1999. Dr. Sarmini is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American College of Surgeons. He has been accredited as an Advanced Gynecological Surgeon by the Accreditation Council for Gynecologic Endoscopy. Dr. Sarmini is also a member of the Society of Pelvic Surgeons, the American Association of UroGynecologists, and the International Uro-Gynecologists Association. Dr Sarmini served as a Chairman of the Department of OB/GYN and Vice Chief of Staff at the Medical Center of Arlington between 2002 and 2004; he served on the Perinatal, Credential, and Bylaw Committees.

Dr. Sarmini has many awards for accomplishment in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology, including the Francis Thomas Hammie Memorial Award, the Breast Cancer Detection Award, and the “Top Doctors in Tarrant County Award”.
